United Methodist Women
General Meeting Monday, Sept. 13, 10:30 Fellowship Hall
After our summer break we encourage everyone to be here to learn and fellowship together.

Susan Turbeville will give our program, bringing us up to date on the work in Haiti started years ago by Frances and Dr. Gardner Landers. Susan is very involved with HEF.

Light luncheon will follow the program. Guests are welcome.

FUMC KITCHEN USE POLICY

The main kitchens of FUMC are overseen by a volunteer committee with a Kitchen Coordinator appointed to the Administrative Board. This group oversees church sponsored events which involve food service. The coordinator purchases basic supplies. The committee keeps a check on equipment and keeps the kitchens up to date.

Groups planning to occupy either kitchen, must register on the official church calendar in the secretary’s office. All china, flatware and glassware used for eating are required to be washed in the dishwasher.

NO items of equipment are to be removed from church property without the consent of the senior pastor AND knowledge of the kitchen coordinator.

Any First United Methodist member or staff led group WANTING to use the church disposables MUST pre-arrange their needs with the kitchen coordinator in order to avoid using merchandise earmarked for another event. When specific items are needed, turn in the order at least a week in advance to ensure delivery.

Persons using either kitchen are responsible for cleaning the kitchen and dining area and returning it to order. This includes arranging for the dishwasher to be emptied if used. This is NOT the custodian’s job. Any food left in a refrigerator or freezer must be labeled with the date and your name. It will be disposed of in a week or used. Personal dishes should be picked up in the dish pantry.

Please remember that our kitchens are kept up by volunteer members.

HELP US, HELP YOU!
Are you a local business owner? Do you provide a service that the rest of the congregation may not know about? Well, we would love to hear about it! We are currently putting together a list of businesses and services owned by our congregation members. We will be posting this list on a large bulletin board by our main offices so that we can share this information with our church family and visitors. We hope that by sharing this information we, as a congregation, can support one another in new ways. If you are interested in this compilation please either contact the church office or email Rev. Brittany. Thanks!

BUS MINISTRY TO BEGIN
Have you heard? Our church now has a new 15-passenger bus with an easy walk-in door, center aisle, and comfortable seats, and we are ready to start using it! We would like to begin by giving rides to and from church on Sunday mornings. Our goal is to pick up anyone who would like this service in time to get to Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and then take them back home after the 10:30 worship service. If you would be interested in this service, please call the church office at 862-1341 and let us know. We will then get back with you about details. We will also need some volunteers to drive the bus on Sunday mornings. You do not need a CDL license, and the bus is easy to operate. Ideally we would like to have four teams of two, one to drive and the other to assist people on and off the bus. Four teams would mean driving the bus once a month. If you are willing to help with this service, please call the church office as well, at 862-1341.

NURSERY WORKERS NEEDED
We are in need of workers for Sunday mornings and Wed. Evenings. $10.00 Hour. If interested please call Holly at 918-2802.

Join Pat for this 9 week study. The key verse is Psalm 16:5-6: “The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.”

Order yours for $5 by calling the church office 862-1341

Does anyone have any odd jobs around their house they’d be willing to pay youth to do, please send Matt Carter your information and he’ll have the youth contact them personally.

Memorial Niches ~ Burial on the church grounds
Is there a loved one in your family (or perhaps yourself) that would like to be buried on the grounds of the First United Methodist Church? At one time, FUMC had an active cemetery, but it has been closed to burials for decades.

Now, however, we do have an opportunity to open a new Memorial Niche Wall on church grounds that would be available for interment of ashes of any FUMC member or family member, if there is enough interest in such a Memorial Niche wall.

We will soon be surveying the church at both services (with a tear-off tab in the bulletins for the First Light and Sanctuary services) to see if there is enough interest in building a Memorial Niche Wall for interment of a deceased member's ashes.

The Niches will be pre-sold, so that you can be sure of your place when the time comes.

Average funeral costs, nowadays, approach $10,000, including casket, funeral home services and cemetery plot. Cremation and interment in the Memorial Niche wall will be considerably less costly.

If you are interested in such a Memorial Niche Wall, call the church at 862-1341 to record your interest.

If you have questions about the Memorial Niche Wall, call Nick Macchiarolo at 862-8698.

Wednesday Night Live is now an All Church Event!
This fall we will be opening up what used to be our youth and children’s meal to the entire church. Each Wednesday night starting in September we will have a church wide meal in the Hanna building at 5:30 pm. After the meal there will be adult classes offered from 6:15– 7pm. Below you will find a few ways that you can help us plan for this new church night. Please place your response in the offering plate or drop it by the church office.

1. What kinds of Bible Studies or classes would you be interested in taking?

2. What is at least one life skill or specific area of knowledge that you can share with the rest of the church through a 2-4 week course?

3. Would you be interested in helping plan or cook the meals for Wednesday nights? Yes / No

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE? We want to remind you-that you know someone who needs a shawl. We keep "secrets". The recipient does-n’t need to know who requested the shawl. Also the shawls are FREE and we DELIVER. Call me, a Prayer Shawl member, or the Church office. Please keep this mission in your prayers and send a shawl. Marcella Perdue 863-9337

The FUMC Kids are putting together a cookbook and really need your recipes!! Holly Thomas put out a plea for your tried and true favorites a few weeks ago, but hasn't gotten much response. It's not too late!! Please bring them by the church office or e-mail them to Holly!

There are several items in the office that have been found in the Hanna Building, in the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall or even in the Loft. If you’ve lost something, call the office to see if it has been found.

FOREIGN MISSION TRIP
Plans are already underway for our Rio Bravo mission trip for 2011. The trip will be the last week of May 2011, just days after the El Dorado School System adjourns for the summer. We continue to feel led to serve there in conjunction with 'Manos Juntas Mexico' - this on-going mission is a combined effort of the UMC of Mexico and the UMC of the United States. Safety is of course high in our minds. The staff at Manos Juntas continually monitors this situation. Please pray for our plans and whether God may be calling you to serve in this way. We have had 5 successful and meaningful trips to Rio Bravo. Manos Juntas strives to provide education health care, housing and church growth in Rio Bravo and the surrounding areas. If you feel called to serve on a foreign mission effort but are interested in other areas, the Arkansas volunteers in missions office can get you in touch with other congregations with a wide variety of sites.

Many of you have commented on how much you enjoy the fellowship when we have combined worship services on Sunday mornings. Worshipping with the larger church and getting to know one another better are both very important. Therefore, beginning February 7 and going through October, the first Sunday of each month will feature a combined worship service. We will alter-nate between 8:30 and 10:30 hour, but always the focus will be on worshipping God and fel-lowshipping with one another. You will find the schedule of combined services below; please copy them into your home calendar!!

February 7, April 4 (Easter), June 6, September 5, November 21, and December 19 will all be at 10:30 in the Sanctuary.

March 7, May 2, July 4, August 1, and October 3 will all be at 8:30 in the Hanna Building.

Are you concerned about the environment?

Do you have some ideas about how we could make this church a little “greener”? Do you believe that a few small changes can make a big difference? If so you are in luck! Rev. Brittany Richardson is looking into starting a “Green Team” that will celebrate God’s creation though exploring more environmentally friendly options. If you are interested in joining the team please contact her by email: fumcedap@suddenlinkmail.com or at the church office!

Please help us conserve electricity. Due to a combination of rate increase and usage our monthly bill is averaging $500 per month above last year (from $2800 to $3300/mo.). When you leave a room (even a hall or bathroom) please turn out the lights even if someone will be returning to that room in an hour. Paying attention to air conditioning settings will help too!
