HANDS-ON LOCAL MISSION NEEDS ASSISTANCE!
HELPING HANDS FOOD PANTRY (LOCATED AND OPERATED BY ST PAUL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH) IS IN DIRE NEED OF ASSISTANCE.
HELPING HANDS STARTED FOUR YEARS AGO AND HAS GROWN TO HELPING OVER 300 FAMILIES PER MONTH.
FUMC MISSION COMMITTEE HAS COMMITTED MONETARY SUPPORT FROM OUR BUDGETED MONEY THROUGH 2012.
HELPING HANDS CONTINUE TO NEED MONETARY DONATIONS BUT SEVERAL AREAS WHERE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED ARE LISTED BELOW:
1. Help on open pantry days, the 1
st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. Volunteers are used on a rotating schedule. You may work as often or as infrequently as meets your schedule. The work is light duty from 12:45 to 3:15 pm.
2. Twice per month, usually on Mondays, volunteers are needed to help bag canned goods in preparation for the next open pantry day. One to two hours, starting at 1pm.
3. Food is either purchased or donated from the Rice Depot, Arkansas Food Bank, and Foster Farms in Farmerville, La. Every 6 weeks 5 or 6 men are needed for 45—90 minutes to help unload food. Volunteers are called on a rotating schedule.
4. Volunteers are needed with a dependable, powerful pickup truck to help pick up food from Warren and Farmerville. The truck should be powerful enough to handle a 2500-pound trailer with a 4000-pound load. Volunteers are called on a rotating schedule.
5. Volunteers, talented in finding appropriate grants, are needed. Helping Hands has someone to write the grants; they need help finding all of the grants available.
SIGN UP TIME IS HERE!
We are now actively recruiting team members for our January Tornado Recovery Mission Trip. The dates
for the trip are Sunday, January 22, through Friday, January 27, 2012. We will have camp-like accommodations
and home-cooked food. No particular skill level is required. We will be serving just west of Tuscaloosa, Alabama
in a rural area that was devastated by the April tornadoes. The most important thing we hope to bring to the
families there is encouragement and the love of Christ. This trip requires no foreign travel and the cost is
low-less than $150 per person. However, if that is an issue, scholarships are available. If you have ever
considered serving on a mission team, this is a great opportunity. You will come back renewed in your faith
and much closer to many of your church family. Please prayerfully consider serving.
We have 13 openings. For questions see Sandy and Mark Carpenter or Kay and Scott Hardin.

Volunteers Needed for FirstLight!
1. Our First Light Band would love to have some more musicians to help. Currently they are looking for a piano or keyboard player, a drummer, and a bass guitar player. If you have a talent in any of these areas and would like to use them in worship, please talk with Greg Oden.
2. We would like to involve more laity in the service. If you would be willing to occasionally read a scripture or lead a prayer, or if you would like to sing a song or perform a drama, etc one Sunday, please let one of the worship leaders know.
3. We need someone who will help coordinate a volunteer schedule to provide some light beverages each week before and after First Light. Also , if you are willing to provide and set up the beverage table every few months, please sign the refreshment list next to the bulletins. We will contact you to make a schedule.
4. We need 2-4 volunteers who can work with Jason Colvin to help set up chairs each week for First Light. Let Jason or Bro. Jim know if you will help.
5. Lindsey Colvin could always use more volunteers to help with Children’s Church!
6. We need each of you to help put the chairs away immediately after each First Light service in order to be ready for youth activities on Sunday evening.
7. Finally, we would like to find some creative people who would like to help decorate the altar and worship area seasonally and for special occasions. See Bro. Jim for more information.
